If you find yourself wandering through the picturesque landscapes of Shirakawa, a visit to Hakuraku is an experience not to be missed. Nestled at 25-1 Ogimachi in Ono District, Gifu, this charming café offers a delightful escape into the world of authentic Japanese flavors, with a unique twist that reflects both traditional and contemporary culinary artistry.

The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a rustic and cozy ambiance that invites you to sit back and unwind. The décor captures the essence of the surrounding mountains—natural materials and warm lighting create an intimate atmosphere, ideal for enjoying a leisurely meal or catching up with friends.

The menu at Hakuraku showcases a selection of dishes that are both comforting and diverse. The Chinese egg noodles served in a fragrant soy sauce broth are particularly popular among patrons. Whether you prefer them mild or spicy, the broth strikes a perfect balance—not too salty, allowing the noodle's texture to shine through. For those seeking a kick, the spicy version features tender meat pieces and a delightful heat that will awaken your senses.

Be sure to try the chicken beef sausage, which has garnered rave reviews for its rich flavor profile, and the tofu topped with miso, a dish that beautifully blends the soft creaminess of local Shirakawa tofu with the umami punch of miso. The culinary experience is perfectly complemented by refreshing yuzu tea, a summer favorite that is ice-cold and invigorating.

Real patrons echo these feelings; Musho Pea describes Hakuraku as having a "yummy" experience marked by a "rustic ambience.” Another diner,雪球Snowball, shares how the chefs went above and beyond to cater to their request for soft noodles, which certainly made their day. The mountain view from the café adds to this memorable dining experience, proving that every meal at Hakuraku is not just about the food, but also about the beauty that surrounds it.

David Díaz praises the hot tea as "one of the best" he's ever tasted, while Wong Wei Xun highlights the unique Anko (Red Bean) Coffee as a standout beverage that pleasantly surprised him. The generous hospitality of the owner, as noted by Lee Dai Yi Casslyn, adds an extra layer of warmth to the experience—making Hakuraku feel like a home away from home.

Whether you are a local or a traveler in search of a hidden gem, Hakuraku is more than just a cafe; it’s a delightful journey through the unique flavors of Gifu, complemented by an ambiance and hospitality that make every visit feel special. Don't miss the chance to savor your next meal here. You're sure to find comfort in the cozy surroundings and satisfaction in your meal.

The chef met my request to ensure my noodles are soft and they did! Wonderful dinner which made my day! The local Shirakawa tofu which is hard in texture matched very well with the slightly spicy miso paste that was provided at the side. Very reasonably priced and with an awesome view of the mountain when dining.
